World Day against arthritis was established in 1996 and since then is held annually on October 12. In 2011, the worldwide day against arthritis confined to the subject: "The move to improve!" («Movetoimprove!»).

The aim of the worldwide day against arthritis is to draw attention and awareness to the problems of rheumatic diseases.

Diseases of joints and spine are global problem of the modern world. About 10% of the population suffers from arthritis (joint inflammation). Most people who suffer from joint pain and related restrictions of are the elderly, but the most dangerous and severe rheumatic joint diseases are associated with the rapid development of arthritis, affecting the young, able-bodied people.

For the treatment of arthritis are often used non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs (NSAIDs), which have analgesic, anti-inflammatory and antipyretic activity. They quickly relieve pain, but they do not stop the destruction of the cartilage, and some substances of this group may contribute to the further destruction of cartilage. In addition, long-term use of NSAIDs can cause dangerous side effects, especially on the part of the gastrointestinal tract and the cardiovascular system.
